Heavy Moulding
Excellent surface finish and dimensional accuracy
Traditional moulding methods combine with new technology of chemically bonded sand systems on BAS Castings heavy moulding section.
Iron Castings produced in this section are too large for boxless moulding and moulding boxes are used. Traditional foundry practice is to utilise the nearest available box to produce the product, but this results in high material usage and cost.
BAS Castings review the iron casting to be made, and where economically sized moulding boxes are not available, purpose made boxes are procured. Board mounted, production pattern equipment, combined with highly skilled moulders produce large, complex iron castings efficiently to achieve the lowest production costs. Step joint and/or Diablo location ensure that the mould halves close precisely giving neat, flush joint lines.
All moulds are flood coated to enhance the surface finish of the casting. Many iron castings produced are cosmetically critical as well as mechanically functional.
Consultation with our Technical Staff will result in taking the sand casting process to its extremes, even on large engineering iron castings, enabling cast features to be incorporated resulting in reduced machining and finishing costs
